Muturi wants Mt Kenya parties to unite

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has urged small political parties in Mt Kenya region to unite and form a formidable political outfit ahead of the August elections.

The Speaker, who has been endorsed by the Democratic Party as its presidential candidate, said the region should bargain for political space as a united force and not as individual entities.

He warned that the region could be shortchanged if it is not in the next government. “It would be prudent for us to coalesce around one strong party like the DP in order for our strength to be felt,” he said.

Muturi (pictured) told party delegates in Limuru that Mt. Kenya people should not beg to be included in any coalition but should instead wait to be courted.

“We have the numerical strength and nobody should take the same for granted,” he said.

“Let whoever wants to court us as Mt. Kenya approach us. We shall then give our conditions and those who will accommodate them will be our partner.”

He revealed that the party will hold its National Delegates Conference on February 21 during which a decision will be made on who he should enter into a coalition with.
