Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has dismissed as false speculation that he is teaming up with other leaders to form a Third Force in the presidential race.
Muturi, who met One Kenya Alliance (OKA) chiefs and Mt Kenya Unity Forum leaders led by Narc Kenya party boss Martha Karua last week in a “consultative meeting” said he has already declared his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta adding that he is ready to battle it out with all his other challengers.
Following the meeting, there has been speculation that Muturi, together with some other Mt Kenya Unity Forum leaders and OKA principals, have been plotting to craft a grand 2022 neutral force to floor Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, who are also vying for the top position.
Good governance
“There is nothing really wrong when leaders meet and consult each other on various issues. People should not read too much when we come together to share a cup of tea,” said Muturi who is also the Mount Kenya regional spokesman.
Speaking at Kagaa PCEA Church in Lari, Kiambu county during celebrations to mark the retirement of Rev David Muriithi Gakibe on Sunday, he maintained that his current focus was popularising the Democratic Party, on whose ticket he hopes to use to vie for the presidency and also enlightening Kenyans on good governance.
For a long time, he noted, the government has been relying on old systems of budget-making, a situation he said has resulted in guesswork and from it, embezzlement of public funds.
