Mutua, Kiraitu call for formation of Mt Kenya East coalition

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his Meru counterpart Kiraitu Murungi have drummed support for formation of a strong Eastern political coalition ahead of 2022.

The two governors, who spoke on Friday at Kiagu in Imenti Central, said there is need for the eight counties from the larger Eastern region to form a strong voting block that will bring together all like-minded parties.

While attending a burial of a Member of Meru county assembly Eunice Karegi, the leaders who were accompanied by a section of area legislators and MCAs, said the region needs to come together under one powerful umbrella party.

“We need a strong coalition that will bring together the eight counties from Eastern part of Kenya that will help us produce a strong flag bearer to run for presidency come next election,” Mutua said.

Kiraitu further regretted that for many years Mt.Kenya East has been treated has an outsider politically since independent .

“We are tired of being spectators and treated as outsiders in the political game for many years. This time east of the mountain has opened eyes and we are ready to team up with our brother like Mutua, Kalonzo Musyoka (Whiper party), Charity Ngilu (National Kenya Rainbow Coalition ) and any other party that will accommodate our political interest now that we are reviving our mbus party soon,” said Kiraitu.
