Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai has remained bullish for voting 'Yes' in support of the contentious Finance Bill 2024.

Addressing residents on Monday, July 1, 2024, the MP insisted that he would not apologise despite voting in support of the Bill which sparked nationwide outrage.

Mutai argued that the Bill was poised to benefit the residents with allocation for roads and other development programmes.

Mutai told his constituents that he was greatly disturbed by the massive property destruction at Molo MP Kuria Kimani's home. He added that the MP cannot hold a public meeting due to his stance on the Finance Bill 2024.

"Right now the Molo MP cannot hold a rally like this one. I voted Yes na siombi msamaha ( I voted YES and I won't apologise). Because I knew that Yes would bring this road, that Yes would bring development here," the Kuresoi North MP stated.

Warning to Molo residents

Mutai warned Molo residents for attacking their area MP over his support for the Finance Bill. The MP argued that the area was set to benefit as it received the presidential approval.

"If there is a constituency that has benefited, then it is the Molo constituency. There is no bad road in Molo, every part of Molo has power connectivity. But if destroying their MP's property is how they give back, ole wao!" Mutai noted.

He added that if the Molo constituents do not want their MP to hold the National Assembly Finance Committee chairmanship, then President Ruto can hand it to the Kuresoi constituency because they are ready for development

"We condemn the attack and pray that the cleansing will do something to those who destroyed Kuria's property. Why steal chicken and cattle, and burn cars?" he posed.

Other MPs apologise

Nonetheless, several MPs have apologised to their constituents for voting 'Yes' for the Finance Bill 2024. Central Turkana MP Joseph Namuar apologised to his constituents for voting in favour of the now-withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.

Namuar said that the move by President Ruto to decline to sign the Bill into law has paved the way for dialogue.

"I laud him for the leadership he has exhibited today to show Kenyans that he can listen to their views. If there is a way we did wrong for those of us who voted Yes we ask for your forgiveness," he said.

"Also as your (President Ruto) footsoldiers, we ask for forgiveness on your behalf."
