Murang’a MCA Sharleen Wambui condemns political violence, urges focus on solutions
By Emmanuel Rono, April 17, 2026Murang’a Member of County Assembly (MCA) Sharleen Wambui has called on Kenyans to move past the cycle of political intolerance and goonism by acknowledging its historical roots and focusing on a multi-sectoral approach to peace.
Speaking during an interview with a local station on Friday, April 17, 2026, Wambui stated that the political violence and the use of goons have been a part of the Kenyan landscape since the introduction of multi-partyism in 1992.

“When we are coming to the issues of goonism and the issues of political unrest and gangsters, as we look to the future, we have to look back at the history.
“If we have to have a solution for the future, we have to look at the history of political intolerance, the issues of goonism, and the issues of gangsters. It came from way back in 1992, after the introduction of multipartism,” Wambui said.
Need for solidarity and honesty
Wambui expressed her solidarity with women who have been victims of political violence.
She stated that political affiliation should not matter when it comes to defending women from assault.
“The fact that I am a woman, I cannot sit down and watch other women go through violence… I might be the one to be affected tomorrow,” Wambui said.
