Muheria faults Ruto over empty promises, calls for truth and accountability in leadership
By Emmanuel Rono, May 2, 2026Nyeri Metropolitan Archbishop Anthony Muheria has criticised President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing the government of maintaining a cycle of unfulfilled promises to the Kenyan people.
Speaking during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Maralal Diocese at the Maralal Cathedral in Samburu County on Friday, May 1 2026, the Archbishop said that the country is in dire need of accountability and honest leadership.
He warned against the political tactic of using deception to gain popularity, stating that a society built on a lack of truth is destined to fail.
“Being the stewards and protectors of what is right, of what is honest, and above all, of what is true… if we are truthful to ourselves, to what we say, and those around us, then we will hold the society secure,” Muheria stated.
Why we need honesty
He further cautioned that when dishonesty is allowed to lead even the family unit, the very foundation of society begins to crumble.
“When we let deception, dishonesty and lack of truth even in our own families they crumble. Let us avoid using lies to gain popularity of no reason,” Muheria added.
The Archbishop’s remarks coincided with Labor Day celebrations, where he pivoted to the welfare of the Kenyan workforce.
He urged the government and private employers to prioritize the well-being of workers, calling for immediate actions to uplift their lives.
Muheria further insisted that those in positions of power must ensure employees are given what is right and that their dignity is respected.
“At the same time for those who have employees, let us give them what is right,” Muheria noted.
His words were echoed by Maralal Bishop Hieronymus Joya, who said the leaders must respect the workers.
“Wanasiasa na viongozi pia wataona umuhimu wa kuheshimu wafanyikazi, kupatia wafanyikazi nafasi ili waweze kujiimarisha, kujitafutia kazi na kuendeleza familia,” Joya said.
