‘Parliament has become a conveyor belt of anything bad from State House’ – ODM MP
By Mary Ouko, November 30, 2023
Nyando Member of Parliament (MP) Jared Okello has weighed in on President William Ruto’s involvement in parliament.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, November 30, 2023, Okello noted that Ruto had strategised plans on how to ensure that he winds up with the majority in parliament to effectively implement his agenda.
He went on to claim that the president bought Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposition and independent parties in order to make the parliament an appendage of the Executive.
“I began by saying that there was a very deliberate excuse by Ruto after he lost the elections announced by Chebukati. Having garnered less in Parliament he went out to buy Members of Parliament (MPs) after the elections. The reason why Ruto did this was so that the parliament could be an appendage of the Executive. When Kenyans presented a memorandum on the Finance Bill what came before the house for debate was totally different, never reflective of the wishes of Kenyans,” he stated.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) further claimed that the parliament was being controlled by a dictatorial tendency perpetuated by Ruto’s administration.
He added that the parliament has now become a conveyor belt of anything bad from the State House whether favourable or not.
“We are being controlled by a dictatorial tendency perpetuated by the Kenya Kwanza government, they have the numbers we are the minority. Parliament has become a conveyor belt of anything bad from State House it has to pass whether we like it or not,” he added.
