Kipipiri Member of Parliament Wanjiku Muhia has congratulated Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru following his victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, describing the outcome as a triumph of faith and the will of the people.

In a congratulatory message addressed to the MP-elect on his social media handles on Friday, July 17, 2026, Muhia said the people of Ol Kalou had spoken “loudly and clearly”, attributing the victory to God’s guidance throughout the campaign.

“Congratulations on your victory! Ol Kalou has spoken loudly and clearly. This success belongs to God, demonstrating that He is our Mighty Father; if God says YES, no one can say no,” Wanjiku said.

Wanjiku praises voters’ resolve

Muhia has commended residents of Ol Kalou for turning out to vote despite what she described as attempts to intimidate them during the election.

“To the people of Ol Kalou, I cannot thank you enough. You are the real Itungatis. The attacks at more than 20 polling stations were an attempt to scare you, but you stood firm against the goons and the guns. Your resolve was unshakeable,” she said.

The lawmaker also acknowledged DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, Nyandarua Senator John Methu and party supporters for their role in the campaign while thanking the people of Kipipiri Constituency for allowing her to spend time campaigning in neighbouring Ol Kalou.

“I want to extend special recognition to all our voters, our Gitungati 001, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, and our very own Kaba Methu. I also thank Kipipiri Constituency for allowing me to be away in support of the community (Ruriri),” she said.

IEBC summons during campaign

Muhia’s message comes after an eventful campaign period in which she was among political leaders summoned by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over what the IEBC termed breaches of the Electoral Code of Conduct ahead of the July 16 by-election.

The summons formed part of the commission’s efforts to enforce campaign rules following complaints arising from the hotly contested race in which the MP was slammed with a fine of Ksh1.5 million.

Despite the summons, the Kipipiri MP maintained her support for Kamau and continued campaigning alongside Senator John Methu, insisting her participation in the campaigns was within the law.

Her congratulatory message followed the announcement of Kamau’s victory, which saw him secure the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat after defeating UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga by a wide margin.

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau was declared the winner of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election by the IEBC after securing a commanding 35,440 votes, defeating United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who garnered 5,450 votes.

Muhia concluded by thanking everyone who supported the campaign, saying their collective efforts had delivered the victory.

“Thank you all so much for your incredible support,” she said.
