MP Peter Masara: Sifuna can’t even be MCA without ODM
Suna West MP Peter Masara has launched a sharp attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, claiming the embattled ODM Secretary-General would struggle to secure even a ward-level seat without the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the late party leader Raila Odinga.
“If you remove ODM and Raila from Edwin Sifuna, he cannot even be an MCA of any ward in Nairobi,” Masara said during a television interview on February 16, 2026.
“Comparing Edwin Sifuna to Raila Odinga is an insult to Raila’s supporters. If Sifuna is bold, let him leave ODM and form ODM Asili.”
Masara criticised ODM leaders who attended the chaotic Kitengela rally on February 15, arguing that most were motivated by personal interests rather than public service.
“The people from ODM who attended the rally in Kitengela, most of them are pushing their own personal agendas, not the public one. Many of them are making noise because they were not given the positions they wanted in the party,” he added.

Party divisions
The remarks come as ODM faces internal divisions over its cooperation talks with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Sifuna has become the figurehead of a rebel wing, spearheading the “Linda Wananchi” tour to mobilise grassroots support against the proposed pact.
The Kitengela event, branded the “Sisi Ndio Sifuna” rally, attracted thousands of supporters but descended into chaos when police deployed tear gas and allegedly fired live bullets, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Vincent Ayomo.
Sifuna immediately condemned the incident, blaming the Kenya Kwanza government and calling it a “senseless killing,” while demanding justice for the young father who left behind a wife and daughter.
Loyalty to party
Masara’s criticism echoes earlier comments from Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who warned that Sifuna’s influence would fade without ODM’s backing. The party’s National Executive Committee had attempted to oust Sifuna as Secretary-General on February 11, but the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal issued an interim order blocking the decision.
Despite the leadership wrangles, Sifuna has vowed to continue his nationwide tours, asserting he remains the duly elected Secretary-General.
He has received support from allies including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Suba North MP Caroli Omondi.
