Leave us alone if you’re tired of Mt Kenya votes – MP Gakuya tells Ruto
By Achieng' Mary, September 20, 2024
A section of leaders allied to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have continued their sustained attacks on President William Ruto over Mount Kenya politics.
Led by Embakasi North Member of Parliament (MP) James Gakuya, the leaders who have thrown their weight behind DP Gachagua, took turns calling out the president over Gachagua’s wrangles when they addressed a section of traders at Marikiti Market in Nairobi on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Gakuya particularly pointed out that a section of leaders have become too comfortable disparaging and disrespecting the DP while the president watches.
He singled out Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah whom he says insults Gachagua while standing next to the president yet the president does nothing about it.
Gakuya went on to state that the president should distance himself from Mount Kenya politics if he is tired of the region’s votes. He also criticized him over his continuous calls to stop 2027 politics, accusing him of doublespeak.
The agitated MP firmly opined that the president should stop asking them to halt 2027 politics yet he is also campaigning for himself during his rallies.
“Kama umechoka na kura ya mlima kwa sababu umeoa bibi mpya, jipange na bibi mpya wachana na sisi, tunajua kule tunaenda. Unatuambie tuachane na siasa ya 2027, tutawachaje, wewe kwanza koma na siasa ya 2027, sisi pia tutawacha, latini huezi tukataza na wewe bado uko siasa ya 2027,” he added.
Additionally, Gakuya expressed his utmost dissapointment in Ruto’s leadership and assured the Mount Kenya region that as leaders, they will not allow their people to be subjected to mediocre leadership.
“Tunataka kuambia mdosi ambaye ni rais wa jamhuri, wewe umetukera sana na tumekuona mahali unatuelekeza, unatupeleka kwa shimo, sisi kama jamii ya Mlima hatutakubali kuenda hio bara bara. Wewe unataka kuhama mlima, umebeba wabunge umewajaza kwako State House kila siku unawapatia madollar lakini ukumbuke kura ziko kwa ground.”
The latest comes days after over 2,000 Njuri Ncheke elders rallied behind Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki, dealing a blow to DP Gachagua, who has relentlessly run a campaign to rally the region behind him.
Speaking after their declaration, the leaders said CS Kindiki had passed the Njuri Ncheke test for leadership.
“We the Njuri Ncheke elders from the counties of Meru and Tharaka Nithi have gathered here in Njiru to say that Kithure Kindiki who has a cordial working relationship with our President William Ruto is our favourite,” Njuri Ncheke chairman Adriano Aruyaru stated.
“Today Njuri Ncheke in their numbers have endorsed him as our kingpin and spokesman. He will be our link as Mt Kenya East to President William Ruto.”
