Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has defended Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya after he was publicly criticised by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.

Ichung’wah directed his criticism to the governor when he was given a chance to speak during the burial of Moses Wetang’ula’s mother in Bungoma on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Natembeya had asked President William Ruto to end the reported abductions of youth, but Ichung’wah said the governor has no moral authority to make such a call.

The National Assembly Majority Leader even linked Natembeya to abductions that happened when he was Rift Valley’s regional commissioner.

“The great people of Bungoma, you should never allow your sons and daughters to be abused, humiliated, or maligned by strangers who do not understand the atrocities meted out to people of western for a long time.

“Natembeya has his flaws, and he definitely deserves to be condemned, but @KIMANIICHUNGWAH has no moral authority to lecture and abuse even a hen that has come home late anywhere in the western region.

“Mulembe people mean peace everywhere, but that should not be misconstrued as being meek and indefensible,” Amisi said in a statement on his X account on Friday, January 3, 2025.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator also added his voice on the reported disappearance of the youth deemed critics of the government.

“Let’s all stop using abductions as convenient political fodder, whether in support or in opposition, and preserve the legitimacy of the state and sovereignty of the great people of Kenya,” Amisi added.

After Ichung’wah’s attack on Natembeya, many leaders from across the political divide are expected to air their views on the same matter.
