Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has advised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to ditch working with President William Ruto’s government and seek the presidency during the 2027 general elections.

Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Amisi argued that supporting the government of the day has never favoured Raila.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker further stated that none of the governments, which he has termed as deep states that Raila has supported, has ever fulfilled the promise of helping him ascend to power.

Govt support

Amisi argued that Raila supported the late former president Mwai Kibaki’s government under the Nusu Mkate arrangement, but he was never helped to succeed him.

He also says the ODM party leader had a handshake with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and worked with his government during his second term, but the fourth Head of State did not put in much effort to hand Raila the presidency.

According to Amisi, President Ruto will not do any better, since he has already failed to help Raila clinch the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship position.

“The deep state of the nusu mkate; Kibaki/Raila government never made Baba president, the deep state of the Uhuru government never gave Baba the presidency, and the very deep deep state of the Ruto government has not given Baba an AUC position,” Amisi stated.

2007 elections

The lawmaker went ahead to argue that Raila almost grabbed the power in 2007 when he vied without the support of any government, but the people. For this moment to repeat itself, Amisi says Raila must ditch working with the government by February 2026 and try his luck in 2027 without government endorsements.

“But the people of Kenya, without the deep state, gave Raila the presidency in 2008 that was snatched away at night in the old constitution. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Baba must leave the deep state at the latest by February 2026 and experience the wonderful results. In the new constitutional order, a deep state is moribund, and the sovereign power of the people reigns supreme,” Amisi wrote on X.
