Minnesota fraud: CS Kinyanjui slams Gachagua for urging US to probe Kenya
By Mustafa Juma, January 5, 2026Former Nakuru Governor and Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader called for United States intervention to investigate Kenya’s leadership over alleged links to funds associated with the Minnesota fraud case.
Taking to his official social media accounts on Monday, January 5, 2026, Kinyanjui accused Gachagua of recklessness and poor judgement, warning that dragging foreign governments into Kenya’s internal political disputes could have far-reaching and potentially disastrous consequences for the country.
“The DCP leader has been quoted requesting the intervention of the USA to investigate Kenya’s leadership over allegations of sponsorship through funds linked to the Minnesota fraud case. Never mind, it’s on the very party he was the running mate,” Kinyanjui stated.
“While the province of investigations does not belong to me, the sheer lack of wisdom in failing to distinguish between political differences and matters of grave international significance is alarming.”

Kinyanjui questions Gachagua’s motivation
Kinyanjui further questioned the motivation behind Gachagua’s reported appeal to the US, noting the irony that the allegations touch on a political formation Gachagua was once closely associated with as a running mate.
He argued that seeking external intervention was less about accountability and more about settling personal political scores.
“How can a leader seek to throw his own country into the deep end merely to score personal revenge? This brand of politics is retrogressive and dangerous. It reflects raw greed and naivety in handling matters that could have potentially catastrophic consequences,” he warned.
“To such people we say: A child can play with its mother’s breast, but not its father’s testicles.”

Gachagua’s accusations
Gachagua on Sunday, January 4, 2026, dragged the United States into Kenya’s domestic political debate, urging US President Donald Trump to conduct in Kenya a similar forceful operation to the one carried out in Venezuela early Saturday morning, which resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro.

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kiratina in Kiambu County, Gachagua claimed that the same individuals linked to the Minnesota scandal were still benefiting from government contracts, to the detriment of local farmers.
“Mambo ya Minnesota, pesa iliibiwa, wale watu wamehusika ni business partners wa Rais. Mwenye mall iko Eastleigh ndiye mwenye hiyo scheme. We are asking you Trump, don’t bother about the extradition process in Kenya, wewe fanya vile ulifanya Venezuela, because Ruto amesema jamaa asitolewe huku,” he said.
“Huyo jamaa ndiye bado anahangaisha wakulima wa Mwea sababu amepewa kandarasi ya kuleta duty free rice, Tunataka hiyo ndege ya kumkujia ata Kasongo atakuwa amehusika na pesa ya Minnesota, awekwe kwa hio ndege pia yeye.”
