Miguna Miguna was still going to be allowed back in Kenya if Azimio won, Martha says
Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua now says had Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition won the presidency, lawyer Miguna Miguna would have been allowed to come back to Kenya.
Speaking to BBC, the former Raila Odinga’s running mate said she would have been in charge of the legal issues should they have won the election and that would enable her to handle Miguna’s issue.
“Our campaign was on the platform of the rule of law and constitutionalism. As many may recall, the Hon Raila Odinga had indicated that I would handle the docket on matters constitution and rule of law.
“Miguna would have been able to enjoy his rights and have his passport returned,” she told the BBC.
Karua said it was wrong for Miguna to be deported and it should never have happened.
“What happened was a great mistake and great atrocity by the government of Kenya of which the current President was a happy deputy president,” she said.
She blamed President William Ruto and said he should apologise on behalf of the Jubilee administration that occasioned the deportation of Miguna.
“It is an action he (Ruto) cannot disassociate himself from. In fact, I think, I would expect him to apologise to Mr. Miguna Miguna on his own behalf and on behalf of the President (Uhuru) who has just retired. It is their government that committed that atrocity,” she said.
Miguna arrives in Kenya

Miguna arrived in Kenya on Thursday, October 20 after red alerts issued against him by the previous regime were lifted.
He expressed his gratitude towards Kenyans who ‘stood’ by him during his tribulations after he was exiled.
Speaking shortly after landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the firebrand lawyer acknowledged the effort of his supporters who extended a hand towards him during his quest for justice.
“I am very very very grateful for the warm welcome you have given me, I extend my gratitude to all Kenyans who have stood with me, who have stood with the way of rights in the constitution, who have stood with the course of justice, who have stood with the principles of the rule of law,” he stated.
He additionally lauded the Judiciary for ‘delivering’ on their mandate without taking sides.
Similarly, Miguna expressed his utmost gratitude towards the current administration for enabling him to return home after almost five years of exile.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to the Judiciary that took firm on the side of the rule of law, I must extend my gratitude to Kenyans that voted overwhelmingly for the Kenya Kwanza government because that is central for me,” the lawyer stated.
