United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Tuesday temporarily locked out members of the press from their ongoing National Delegates Convention at Kasarani Stadium gymnasium.

Members of the media were asked to leave the event moments after Deputy President William Ruto who is expected to be crowned as the UDA presidential candidate arrived at the venue.

“Just as we had announced before, that, once the ‘fifth president’ (DP William Ruto) comes in, we will ask members of the media to leave us for a moment. The media are required to leave the room before we proceed with our program,” MC Jessy, the master of ceremony told the media.

According to reports, UDA kicked the media out of the event for an hour to allow the party to have in-house consultations during which they will have two separate meetings; one for the national delegates and the other for the national governing council.

In the meetings, UDA is expected to approve its party officials, pass its constitution as well as come up with a party slogan among other things

Once the meetings are concluded, it is understood that DP Ruto will welcome other party leaders who are seeking to join UDA under the Kenya Kwanza alliance ahead of the August election.
