Jubilee Deputy Party Leader and 2027 presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i hosted a section of Jubilee Party leaders from Nyeri County.

This is even as the former ruling party steps up preparations ahead of the next General Election in 2027.

Using X on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Matiang’i said the meeting focused on a shared commitment to rebuilding the party and offering Kenyans an alternative leadership.

“Earlier today, I was pleased to receive a section of Jubilee leaders from Nyeri County. I sincerely appreciate their time, enthusiasm, and shared commitment to building a better Kenya,” Matiang’i wrote.

Focus on 2027

Among those who attended the meeting was former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who said the discussions centred on the future of Jubilee and the party’s strategy for the 2027 elections.

“Earlier today I had a candid and constructive meeting with Fred Matiang’i to discuss matters affecting the future of the Jubilee Party and our aspirations as members seeking to run on its ticket in 2027,” Wambugu wrote on Facebook.

He said the meeting was frank and focused on strengthening the party.

“Our discussion was frank, respectful and focused on the principles that matter most; strengthening the Party and preparing a credible path back to government in 2027,” he said.

Jubilee reorganisation

The meeting comes as Jubilee intensifies internal consultations following Matiang’i’s endorsement as the party’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary has in recent weeks held a series of meetings with party officials, grassroots leaders and political allies as Jubilee seeks to rebuild its structures and re-establish its presence across the country.

Wambugu said the discussions with Matiang’i would continue as the party works towards its 2027 political agenda.

“Politics is ultimately about conversations, solutions and putting the interests of our people above personal positions. This conversation will continue,” he said.

The latest meeting underscores Jubilee’s efforts to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region as competition for influence within the opposition gathers pace ahead of the 2027 General Election.
