Matiang’i accuses govt of funding propaganda to divide opposition and Gen Z
By Emmanuel Rono, May 14, 2026Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has accused the current administration of spending huge amounts of money on propaganda aimed at creating divisions between opposition leaders and Gen Z activists.
Taking to his X account on May 14, 2026, Matiang’i claimed that senior government officials are behind what he termed as coordinated attempts to sow discord among Kenyans opposed to the current administration.

Loosely translate: “Let me tell you the truth, these are schemes being driven by powerful people within the government. Through all that propaganda, they think they can create divisions between us and Gen Z, because there is nothing they fear more than all of us uniting together,” Matiang’i said.
Investing in propaganda
The former CS further criticised the government for allegedly investing heavily in propaganda and paying social media users to spread misinformation online.
According to Matiang’i, the government spends significant time paying people on social media to lie and distort the truth.

Hii iliyo Kenya mimi nafikiri imezidi duniani,” he said.
Misleading the public
The Jubilee deputy party leader also alleged that fake letters and fabricated claims are frequently circulated to mislead the public and damage opposition figures.
He described the administration as “a government of nonsense,” accusing it of fueling unnecessary political tensions instead of addressing issues affecting ordinary Kenyans. He called for unity among Kenyans and expressed readiness to work with Gen Z in pushing for change and national development.
Mimi niko tayari kufanya kazi na Gen Z na kila mmoja kujenga taifa letu,” Matiang’i said.
