Maraga pitches campaign idea of resetting the country at rotary club event
By Lutta Njomo, July 26, 2025Former Chief Justice David Maraga continued with his push to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 presidential election at the Muthaiga Golf Club.
In a statement on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Maraga revealed that he was invited to give a keynote address during the installation ceremony of the new team.
In his address, Maraga popularised his plan to reset the country by upholding the rule of law as enshrined in the constitution.
The emeritus chief justice also told the people who attended the event that he intends to restore people’s worth, dignity and humanity if elected to succeed President William Ruto in 2027.
Maraga emphasised the need to rebuild the economy to serve all citizens as a core pillar of his campaign.

“This evening I was honoured to be part of the installation ceremony of the Muthaiga Rotary Club, where I gave the keynote remarks,” Maraga’s statement read in part.
“I wished the new team well in the pursuit of the Rotary Club’s motto “Service Above Self”, which deeply resonates with the core values of our campaign: Reset our country to the values we set in the people’s Constitution; Restore our people’s worth, dignity and humanity; and Rebuild our economy and institutions to ensure they serve all of us,” the statement added.
During the ceremony, he was made an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Muthaiga.
“I take this honour with humility and a sense of service,” Maraga indicated after being feted.

Rattling the state
Maraga’s bold pronouncements have continued to rattle the state, with President William Ruto compelled to take a swipe at his recent remarks.
During an interview on K24 on Monday, July 21, 2025, Maraga warned that Kenya was sliding towards failure due to worsening political and economic conditions.
“Look at what is happening in the country. We are getting into a failed state,” he said, criticising the government’s handling of anti-government protests and the erosion of constitutional freedoms.
“There is a political and economic crisis in the country that needs to be addressed squarely,” Maraga added.
Speaking at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) during a bell-ringing event, Ruto criticised Maraga for suggesting that Kenya is on the verge of becoming a failed state, questioning how someone who served in public office for decades could now discredit the very nation he hopes to lead.
“I listened to one gentleman who retired the other day after working for 50 years and now wants to be president. I hear him say Kenya is a failed state. I ask myself: has he been working in a failed state for 40 years?” He posed.
