Malulu Injendi’s son reveals what he will do if UDA denies him ticket for by-election
Ryan Injendi, son of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, has opened up about his plans should the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) deny him the party ticket in the upcoming Malava by-election.
Ryan, who is seeking to succeed his father following his passing while serving in office, addressed the matter during an interview with a local TV station on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. He affirmed that while he is not expecting to be denied the UDA ticket, he has prepared for all possible outcomes.

He emphasised that although he began the political journey alone, it has now evolved into a community-backed effort.
He noted that his candidature is no longer a personal ambition but one supported by a broader group of people.
According to him, some decisions cannot be made individually because an entire clan and community are looking up to him for leadership and direction.
“Mwanasiasa ni kujipanga. I am not looking at a situation whereby I will be denied a party ticket, but in the event the party sees it fit that I am not worthy and will not be given the ticket. As I have told you, my candidature is not by my own wish; although I started this journey alone, it has reached a point where a community is behind me. Some decisions I can’t just make easily; a whole clan is looking at me,” Ryan stated.
Plan
Ryan further stated that if the UDA party decides not to award him the ticket, he has alternative remedies.

He revealed that he has a close-knit team, including opinion leaders, elders, and family members, with whom he would consult before making any next steps.
Despite this, he maintained that he is not anticipating rejection, expressing confidence in his strength, determination, and resolve.
“In the event I am denied the ticket, I have remedies. I have a team that I talk to. I have people – opinion leaders, my fathers, my brothers – that I have talked to. I have to consult, but I am not seeing that situation where I am denied the party ticket. I am very confident I have a resolve. I am determined, and I know,” he added.
He reiterated that he firmly believes he will be the one to fly the UDA flag in the by-election. However, should the outcome be different, he will return to the drawing board and re-evaluate his political strategy in consultation with his supporters and advisors.
Ryan is currently expected to face five other aspirants in the race for the UDA ticket. He said it is up to the party leadership to decide whether the candidate will be selected through party nominations or by consensus.
