‘We are scaring tourists away’ – Malala urges Azimio to halt weekly protests

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Cleophas Malala has urged the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition to stop holding weekly anti-government demonstrations.
Speaking during Citizen TV’s JKL show on Wednesday, July 12, Malala stated that the protests were causing economic sabotage to the country.
He noted that the opposition should sit and chat with the President on ways to revive the economy. According to him, this will help find solutions to the economic bottleneck causing conflict between the government and the opposition.
The former Kakamega senator additionally pointed out that the protests were scaring away tourists who play a key role in the country’s economy.
“I still believe there is hope, I still believe that if our brothers just came down, relaxed and engaged the President in a mature talk in a structured way, the President is a listening President. I want to implore upon the Azimio people to retreat and think because as a country, we are losing tourists who are supposed to come and witness the wildebeest migration in Narok, we are scaring them away,” he stated.
He subsequently called on Narok County Senator Ledama Ole Kina to ask his coalition leader Raila Odinga to call off the demonstrations and have a talk with President William Ruto.
“I want to beseech upon my brother, kindly go tell your leader that my leader is committed to having a structured talk on how we can improve the economy,” he added.
