‘UDA is not in shambles’- Malala dismisses cracks in ruling party
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has said that the ruling party is intact without any cracks as being speculated.
Malala on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, hinted at an unease in the party when he read The Riot Act to a section of elected leaders in the UDA party.
Malala in a press statement warned Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, her Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, threatening them of an unnamed disciplinary action.
Malala's warning
All the parties addressed by Malala fired back at him, apart from Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and his Public Service counterpart Moses Kuria.
Malala while speaking in a televised interview on a local TV station on Thursday, May 30, 2024, said the President William Ruto-led UDA ship is intact.
Indiscipline in UDA
However, Malala noted that there are a few cases of indiscipline among the members, which will be dealt with accordingly.
"UDA ni chama ambacho kiko na members karibu milioni tisa. Wale ambao tumewaleta na wamekosa nidhamu ni wachache...watu karibu tisa, kumi na hiyo ni negligible number kusema kwamba meli ya UDA inayumbayumba. Meli ya UDA iko very steady...Rais wake ako steady na naibu pia ako steady (UDA as a party has about 9 million members. Out of those we have brought together, about 9 to 10 members lack discipline and that is a very negligible number to say that our ship is not steady), "Malala said.
He went ahead to argue that it was not Oscar Sudi who had responded to his warning letter via X, but his communication team.
UDA is strong
Malala further argued that the UDA party is the only political party that has all its organs functioning.
The former Kakamega County Senator also said that UDA as a party is planning to open a leadership school aimed at teaching its leaders about the party manifesto.
The aim, Malala says, is to build a stronger political party that will live beyond President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
However, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga while responding to Malala's warning on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, vowed to ensure that he gets ousted from his position in the upcoming UDA elections.
Wamuchomba in her response also told Malala that the journey is going to be bumpy and itchy.
Wamuchomba said Malala had warned her of disciplinary action because she attended the Limuru 3 political forum, which she says she attended because it had been convened by her community, the Agikuyu.
