The Linda Mwananchi crew was forced to flee for safety on Sunday, July 12, after suspected goons invaded their rally in Nyahururu, Laikipia County.

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Linda Mwananchi spokesperson Caroli Omondi were among those forced to leave the venue as chaos erupted.

Videos from the scene seen by People Daily Digital showed chaos as the gathering was disrupted, forcing leaders and their supporters to scramble for safety.

The incident happened as Linda Mwananchi leaders held a public rally in Nyahururu after attending a church service at AIPCA Nyahururu Cathedral earlier in the day.

The Nyahururu rally came amid heightened political tension in the region, with various groups accusing one another of planning disruptions.

Kang’ata and Linda Mwananchi leaders had initially planned to visit Ol Kalou but changed their programme after concerns over possible confrontations.

On Friday, Kang’ata announced that the team would only hold activities in Nyahururu and would not proceed to Ol Kalou.

“Linda Mwananchi will only go to Nyahururu Town. We are not going to Nyandarua for now as we had scheduled,” he said.

Kisumu attack on Sifuna

Several motorbikes were torched following the disruption of an event attended by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo, amid rising political tensions ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

The incident occurred hours after the two opposition leaders attended a church service at St Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral in Kisumu, where they reaffirmed their commitment to unity within the Linda Mwananchi movement and dismissed claims of internal divisions.

Earlier in the day, Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge had claimed in a Facebook post that there were plans to attack the two leaders after the church service.

“Let’s pray for a safe passage as Edwin W. Sifuna and Governor James Orengo leave Stephen’s ACK Cathedral, Kisumu. State-sponsored goons have been unleashed to attack them,” she posted.
