Narok Senator Ledama Olekina disagrees with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga’s stand on the revenue-sharing formula.

Proposing a new revenue-sharing model, Ledama, through his official social media page on Friday, June 7, 2024, said that the only way to have equity across the Nation is for the revenue to be divided based on land size and not population.

“The only way to have equity in Kenya and for development to be spread across the Nation is for money to be divided based on land size! Not population,” he said.

Adding that one man one vote one shilling model will continue to discriminate against the majority of the countries with less population.

“I disagree with one man one vote one shilling- in 24 counties the majority have been discriminated against for way too long! I will never vote to deny any county money never!”Ledama said.

Raila on revenue formula

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Thursday, June 6, 2024, endorsed the one man one vote one shilling revenue approach after meeting with the Limuru three conference organizers.

Raila said the sharing model will ensure equal distribution of the resources to all Kenyans and insisted that the idea should be embraced.

“We want to ensure each Kenyan gets a piece of the resources created by our sweat, it cannot be right that some children get more money as bursary than other children in another part of the country,” he said.

Adding that they had proposed the sharing formula in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to ensure all Kenyans receive equal treatment.

“That’s why in the BBI we had proposed it but some people don’t want to hear it we want to ensure every Kenyan is fairly equally treated,” he said

Limuru 3 conference

ODM party leader further disclosed that he received the full significant report of the Limuru 3 conference adding that the deliberation will eventually help bridge gaps and enhance devolution.

“I met with the Limuru 3 conference organizers. They gave a full status report of the event's significant discussions and resolutions. I believe these deliberations will eventually help bridge gaps and enhance devolution in this country. 35% revenue share for counties is still our minimum,” he said.

“We committed to continue working together to benefit Kenya and all Kenyans.”
