Ledama: If you see me here mentioning William Ruto, know God is real

By , December 28, 2025

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has praised President William Ruto at a church service in Narok County, describing his reference to the president as a matter of faith.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary of Covenant Church International (CCI) on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Ledama linked his remarks to belief in God and respect for leadership.

He told congregants that mentioning President Ruto in public was a reflection of divine guidance.

“Ukiona Ledama ndio amesimama hapa na anataja jina ya William Ruto, ujue kweli Mungu yupo. Ujue Mungu anashika watu na amenishika, na mimi naona mbele,” he said.

Ledama also referenced political developments in their party.

“Raila alituacha hapa na hapa ndio sisi tuko. Your Excellency juzi ulikuja katika ile sherehe tulikuwa nayo ya Christmas party ya Narok West. Mimi nilifurahi sana kwa sababu ya ile humility yako. Uliketi katikati ya kina mama. Na hukuona kama kuna shida yoyote. Hiyo ni kitu ambacho imetufurahisha sana. Ile kitu watu wa Narok North wanataka tu ni mabarabara,” he added.

The senator’s remarks come amid a political environment that has shifted over the past months. In March 2025, President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga signed a memorandum of understanding under the National Dialogue Committee, establishing a framework for cooperation between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Since then, several ODM leaders have worked closely with the Kenya Kwanza government. However, the party has maintained independence.

Ledama’s past criticisms

Ledama’s record shows he has not always aligned with the government. In September 2025, he criticised Ruto for holding frequent State House lunches, saying they wasted public funds. Earlier in the year, he pushed the government to extend an executive order on ID issuance to include the Maasai community, demonstrating selective cooperation on policy matters.

In 2023, Ledama was vocal about the impact of new taxes and policy changes under Ruto, arguing that the Finance Act and removal of fuel subsidies were hurting ordinary Kenyans. At the time, he said:

“It’s not that we hate William Ruto; we just like the truth. He is messing up the economy with his mirage of taxes, which he believes will propel Kenya to greater heights. Little does he know Kenyans are getting poorer and poorer… it pains a lot! Stop with the taxes, man!”

Earlier in the service, Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga addressed the congregation. She praised President Ruto as a God-fearing leader and linked faith to practical development.

Wanga highlighted plans for a Narok international airport as part of the county’s growth agenda and defended the government’s Singapore-inspired development plan, saying faith and unity could help Kenyans overcome scepticism about ambitious national goals.
