Leaders from Kakamega county continued to mourn the tragic death of Kisa East MCA Stephen Maloba. Maloba was stabbed to death when he stormed a public meeting at Munjiti area in Khwisero constituency on Saturday afternoon.
Area MP Christopher Aseka, who had convened the meeting, yesterday denied accusations that he was behind the murder.
“While I have not been in (good) terms with the deceased, I was not in any way involved in his killing. I have never harboured such thoughts and I pass my condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.
Mysterious death The MCA’s death is shrouded in mystery with some pointing at politics while others cited a love triangle. A boda boda operator who is alleged to have stabbed the first term Ward Representative, was yesterday still at large by the time of going to the press.
Kakamega county Police boss Joseph Kigen said they were closing in on the suspects.
“The investigating officers are closing on the suspects and I can assure that they will be apprehended,” he said. Maloba seemed to have had a premonition of his death just last week when he told a public forum that he was lucky to have been in attendance.
“Some politicians have promised that they will send me to heaven or hell. In fact I am lucky to be here today,” he told the forum.
The MCA has been at loggerheads with Aseka since the August 9 elections when he defeated the ODM candidate who was backed by the MP.
He had initially sought the Orange party’s ticket but jumped ship and opted to vie as an Independent citing irregularities in the primaries. He went on to clinch the seat. Leaders from the county condemned the incident and demanded action against the perpetrators.
“I am saddened by the tragic death of Hon. Maloba. Such abhorrent acts should not be condoned in our modern society,” said Governor Fernandes Barasa.
