Laughter as Salasya fronts Kang’ata as his 2027 running mate
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 13, 2025Mumias East MP and 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Salasya sparked laughter in Murang’a after fronting Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata as his running mate for the 2027 elections.
While addressing the crowd, Salasya stated that he and Kang’ata are among the few leaders capable of offering real solutions to the country’s challenges. He noted that despite both serving less than a full term in their respective positions, they have delivered tangible results for their people.
“Nataka tukiingia mimi nikiwa raisi, wewe ukiwa deputy wangu, alafu Babu Owino atakuwa governor, alafu twende mbele,” Salasya said.
Salasya criticised current leaders for failing to meet the expectations of Kenyans, saying that once he and Kang’ata assume office, they will ensure a smooth transition. He added that those currently in power will be accorded what is required of them, including security, as the new leadership takes over.
“Mimi nimekuwa mbunge miaka 5 ile kazi ambayo nimefanya, kazi ambayo Irungu amefanya, inaonyesha ya kwamba sisi ndio solution ya hii nchi, lakini hawa jamaa wengine hawawezi. Tutawaheshimu, tutawapea security, president, ni sisi,” he added.
Salasya further challenged Irungu Kang’ata and Babu Owino, who was also present at the meeting, to form a coalition aimed at liberating the country. He said it appears they are the only leaders who truly understand the issues affecting the nation and the reasons behind the Gen Z protests. He urged them to join forces and provide the solutions the country needs.
“Wewe umejua where the problem is; Peter Salasya amejua where the problem is; Babu owino amejua where the problem is. Si tuungane Pamoja na tuunde mrengo mmoja na tukombee mara moja,” he added.
His presidential bid
This comes days after he announced a three-month national tour to popularise his 2027 general election presidential bid.
In a statement on Saturday, June 28, 2025, Salasya stated that he will tour every village, county, and street in the country beginning July 2, 2025.
“Round Two Kicks Off This Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 3 months nonstop! Beginning this Wednesday, we go full throttle across the nation for 90 days without pause. Peter Kalerwa Salasya the 6th will be felt in every county, every village, and every street,” he announced.
He has also criticised seasoned politicians for failing Kenyans once elected to lead the country, saying Kenya deserves a people-driven leader.
“We have given seasoned politicians every chance, and they have failed us repeatedly. They only speak the language of the people when they’re outside power. Once in, they forget the cries of the common mwananchi and become the very obstacles to progress,” he said.
“Kenya deserves honest, bold, people-driven leadership. Kenya deserves a fresh start. I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya the 6th, am the best option for president of this republic. This is the moment. This is the mission. This is the movement,” he added.
