Kwale senator vows full support for Sifuna in party duties
By Luke Oluoch, November 1, 2025Kwale Senator Issa Boy Juma has vowed unequivocal support for the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) new leadership as the party enters a new phase following the passing of its former leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the party’s meeting in Mombasa on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the senator specifically implored the coastal leadership to support the new leader, Oburu Odinga, and secretary general, Edwin Sifuna.
Solidarity
“On behalf of the people of Kwale, we want to express our solidarity with the new leadership. We will work with you, and whatever decision you make, we will support,“ he stated.
Boy particularly praised Sifuna for his long-term commitment to the party, while noting that the party needed to work to regain its influence in the region.
“This SG has come from far with Baba and this party. We also support you and will pledge to work with you,” he stated.

“In Kwale, we now have only two representatives at the top of the party: the women’s representative, who is away on other duties, and I. It used to be ODM from top leadership to the ground. We hope to continue strengthening our party and ensure it retains its dominance in the region,” he added.

His remarks come as Sifuna made another controversial declaration during the party’s meeting in Mombasa.
Speaking at the function, Sifuna dismissed the existence of the pre-election collaboration between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and his Orange party to present a united front in the upcoming mini-polls.
The Secretary General reiterated the call that the party retain its identity, clarifying that the broad-based arrangement is not a party nor does it have candidates.
Broad-based is not a party
“The pact we made with UDA did not constitute a coalition agreement. I hear people going around saying there are broad-based candidates in the by-elections. Broad-based is not a party, and therefore, it has no candidates,” he said.
The senator asserted that ODM will enter the polls as a single entity with its symbol and candidates.
Sifuna linked the chants to taking a premature stance on the party’s stance on the coming 2027 polls, warning that the decision rests on the top leadership.
“We sat down as the central committee and agreed that we have not decided how the party will approach the 2027 polls. That decision will be made by the top leadership. So, to those who want to bring confusion, if you have issues about 2027, wait first. The ODM members will decide on how the party will head to the polls,” he stated.
