Koimburi urges government to release constituency funds
Juja MP George Koimburi now wants the government to fast track the release of funds owed to constituencies to go towards bursaries for needy students reporting to school this term.
Koimburi lamented that despite the financial constraints facing most parents who rely on bursaries to educate their children, the government has not disbursed the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty since July last year, a situation that threatens the learning of thousands of vulnerable students.
Speaking at Nyacaba Secondary School during a bursary forms issuance exercise that saw thousands turn up to collect the key documents, Koimburi regretted that although they will issue the forms, there is no money to give the needy students as the NG-CDF accounts have run dry.
He maintained that education is the only thing that equates people and is key for future development of any nation and urged the government to take the matter seriously to avert a crisis.
“We are urging the government to expedite the release of the NG-CDF kitty to enable us to facilitate the education of children from poor backgrounds through bursaries. It is sad that some may fail to report to school due to lack of fees,” said Koimburi.
