Kindiki meets Kiambu elected leaders as Mt Kenya supremacy battles persist

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has held a meeting with Kiambu County elected leaders, professionals, economic sectors stakeholders and grassroots leaders even as Mt Kenya supremacy battles escalate.
In a statement on Monday, February 10, 2025, Kindiki said they had discussed priority development projects and implementation of national government programmes.
“Consultative engagement with Kiambu County elected Leaders, professionals, economic sectors stakeholders and grassroots leaders on priority development projects and implementation of National Government programmes,” Kindiki stated.
The meeting comes a day after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly announced that the Mt Kenya region had dissasotiated with President William Ruto’s administration following his impeachment.
In an interview with Kikuyu radio and TV stations, Gachagua, who fronted himself as the new Mt Kenya kingpin, listed a number of reasons why Ruto was being rejected in the vote-rich region.
According to Gachagua, one of the main reasons Ruto is being rejected in Mt Kenya region is letting the menace of illicit brews slip back, despite the gains made when he (Gachagua) was the deputy president.
“I have not heard even a single person in this Kikuyu land who is saying any good thing about Ruto. I am not the one who is saying but the people . My vote is just one so It cant be me. Things like him bringing back counterfeit alcohol in Mt Kenya is among the top things that are irking people,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua also says that the president has reneged on his promise to support the coffee sector, which he said had Ksh7 billion set aside before he was impeached.
“I had set aside Ksh7 billion for the coffee sector before I left. But of such projects, nothingh has materialized. My people are sying that now we are done with William Ruto. We are done and Mt Kenya is saying they will not support him and will never want to hear anything from him. Mt Kenya told me that they are also done with Ruto’s UDA,” he added.

According to Gachagua, the Mt Kenya people are also planning to vote out any leader who supports Ruto, terming them as betrayers.
“My people are telling me that anybody who has ever betrayed them will not have a chance. They are also telling me that anybody who is supporting Ruto when he is criticizing them will also not have a chance,” he added.
“I was lied to by Ruto but my people have forgiven me and that is why they have sent me. They have told me to also make good friends outside. We will pursue the Akamba and the Abagusii and many others. Others tribes have known and seen that we are a truthful tribe.”
He also accused Ruto of neglecting the region development-wise, despite having received massive support from the region before, during and after elections.
“My people have said they will not beg anyone or kneel down for anyone to receive developments. They are taxpayers and deserve everything. No one will cheer him so that he can give them development. Even when I was there with him and cheering him he still did not do anything for us so cheering wont help,” he added.
