Kindiki announces successful UDA grassroots elections as party expands base
By Mustafa Juma, March 14, 2026Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced the successful completion of the Repeat Phase III grassroots elections conducted by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) across 18 counties.
Taking to his official X account on Saturday, March 14, 2026, moments after addressing the press at Hustler Plaza, Kindiki said the party had conducted the elections peacefully and smoothly, marking another milestone in strengthening its grassroots structures across the country.
The elections were held in Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Kericho, Bomet, and Vihiga counties.
“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has today conducted Repeat Phase III Grassroots Elections in 18 Counties namely: Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Kericho, Bomet, and Vihiga,” Kindiki stated.

Over 500k candidates contest
According to the Deputy President, the exercise attracted massive participation, with over 500,000 candidates registering to contest for 20 different grassroots positions across 8,819 polling centres.
The positions were reserved for representatives of various groups, including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious organisations, professionals, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and traders.
Electronic voting
Kindiki said the elections were conducted electronically and produced 150,000 grassroots officials, each receiving a direct mandate from party members.
“Over 500,000 candidates registered to contest for the twenty (20) positions at the 8,819 Polling Centres as representatives of Women, Youth, Special Interest Groups, Farmers, Religious groups, Professionals, and MSMEs/traders,” he wrote on X.
“The exercise conducted electronically went on smoothly and in a peaceful manner and will produce 150,000 elected grassroots officials with a direct mandate from the people.”

He noted that the successful conduct of the elections demonstrates the party’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy and expanding its grassroots presence across the country.
UDA has been conducting a series of grassroots elections in phases as part of efforts to reorganise and strengthen its structures from the polling station level upwards, ahead of the 2027 General Election.
