Kidero maintains his ‘victory’ was stolen, vows to prove in court
By Mary Ouko, November 8, 2022
Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has maintained that his August 9 ‘victory’ was stolen and wants Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga’s win overturned.
Speaking to K24 TV, the politician alleged that there were electoral malpractices aimed at locking him out of the seat and favouring his arch-rival.
He claimed that the number of people who appeared as voters was less than the number of votes announced hence his commitment to prove the claims in court.
“The people who mismanaged the Homabay election forgot that there is an electronic part that cannot be contradicted by the semi-manual part, and all we are going to demonstrate is the number of peoplewho appeared and voted as recorded by the Kiems kit is by far less than the votes which were announced,” he stated.
Kidero contested the Homa Bay gubernatorial position on an independent ticket in the August 9 election. He lost the seat to Wanga, disputed the results and consequently moved to court to pursue legal redress.
“It is unbelievable that armed gangs could invade polling stations to flash off our agents, beat them up in the full glare of security officers and leave at their own pleasure without any action from security enforcers,
“Elections are generally meant to allow the people to democratically choose their leaders to exercise authority on their behalf for some time as enshrined in the constitution. I am particularly disappointed to see the will of the people of Homa Bay being thwarted with impunity yet again,” Kidero stated.
At the same time, the governor also explained why he chose Homa Bay over Nairobi where he had served as a one-time Governor.
The former Nairobi Governor expressed that he would add ‘value’ to rural politics having served in the city.
“I was born here in Nairobi but my folks and the people I help and where most of my income goes in terms of helping people; educating people, paying for hospitals and buying food for them is in Homa Bay. And I saw what had happened in the previous 10 years. There was absolutely no development,” Kidero stated.
