Khalwale rejects Raila’s calls for dialogue, demands respect for constitution
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has sustained his criticism of the broad-based government arrangement with their recent calls for dialogue sponsored by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Khalwale openly rejected the national conclave as proposed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and instead urged the current administration to respect the law.
The vocal senator argued that no amount of talk would compel President William Ruto’s administration to respect life as clearly stipulated in the 2010 promulgated constitution.
“We are not interested in talks, respect the constitution of Kenya,” Khalwale insisted.
Raila vested interest
Khalwale argued that Raila’s call for a national dialogue was not genuine, insisting that he was in it for personal gain.
He questioned why the outcomes of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) have not been implemented up to now and wondered if the latest calls for dialogue would bear any constructive outcome.

“Implement the constitution, which says you should respect life. These talks Raila is telling you to convene is for his personal gain,” Khalwale stated.
“Recently, Raila, you had NADCO talks, but we have not seen its benefits. You also talked with Uhuru, and we have not seen the outcome of the conversation,” he posed.
“If you ask the voters what they have gained from the talks, there is nothing to show for it.”
Conclave
Raila recently defended his proposal for the formation of a national conclave to chart a new path through collective civic engagement.
The ODM leader dismissed those opposed to the formation of a conclave, which he said would be essential in charting a new, all-inclusive course for the country.
Raila outlined what he said would be the ideal composition, where 40 people would be selected from across the 47 counties.
“50 per cent must be youth, the remaining 50 per cent people of middle age, and people of old age wawe wachache. Wakenya wote tuwe na kongamano ilo tuzungumze shida iko wapi. Hatutaki kuenda uchaguzi ya 2027 na hasira mingi,” he said.
