Khalwale joins Linda Mwananchi team on Trans Nzoia tour
By Mustafa Juma, July 25, 2026Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, joined the Linda Mwananchi movement during its political tour of Trans Nzoia County, marking his first public appearance alongside the outfit’s top leadership as it intensifies nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Senate Majority Whip, who is also the leader of the United Patriotic Movement (UPM) party, was captured in photographs and videos shared by Linda Mwananchi leaders after arriving at Soy County Club, where the movement’s principals held a strategy meeting before embarking on a series of public engagements across the county.
Khalwale joined a delegation led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, among other opposition figures participating in the Western Kenya tour.
Appearance follows earlier hint
His appearance came just two days after he hinted at participating in the Linda Mwananchi activities.
On July 23, Khalwale shared a promotional poster on his social media platforms welcoming the Linda Mwananchi team to Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties, fuelling speculation that he could formally associate himself with the movement.
While the senator did not explicitly announce he was joining the outfit at the time, the gesture attracted significant political attention given his position as Senate Majority Whip and his previous association with Kenya Kwanza.
Saturday’s appearance appeared to confirm that he would participate, at least politically, in the movement’s Western Kenya mobilisation.
Tour begins in Trans Nzoia
According to the programme released by Linda Mwananchi organisers, the team was scheduled to make stopovers at Moi’s Bridge and Sibanga before concluding the day with a major rally in Kitale town.
The delegation is expected to proceed to Bungoma County on Sunday for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s homecoming rally, an event that organisers believe will attract thousands of supporters from across Western Kenya.
The Western Kenya tour forms part of Linda Mwananchi’s broader strategy to expand its support base as opposition leaders continue consolidating under the emerging United Alternative Government alliance.
Opposition momentum
Linda Mwananchi has increasingly attracted prominent political figures from different parties, including governors, senators, Members of Parliament, lawyers and civil society leaders.
The movement has presented itself as a platform advocating constitutional governance, accountability and institutional reforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
On Friday, July 24, 2026, Sifuna claimed that several politicians currently allied to President William Ruto had privately expressed interest in joining the movement once the legal window allowing party defections opens.
He also disclosed that Linda Mwananchi had assembled teams of experts to formulate policy proposals on the economy, education, healthcare and governance, arguing that a future administration should rely on specialised expertise rather than concentrating decision-making in one individual.
Khalwale’s participation is likely to trigger fresh political debate, coming at a time when leaders across Western Kenya continue repositioning themselves ahead of the next General Election.
The outspoken senator has remained one of the region’s most influential politicians and previously served in senior positions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition before increasingly charting an independent political path through his UPM party.
