Keep petty politics out of schools, MP warns critics

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has asked local politicians to keep politics out of schools.

Speaking at Khasoko Secondary School during the constituency’s Education Day, Wamboka said politicking in schools was undermining education standards in the area.

Politicians taking Bumula politics to schools should stop and instead face him directly, he said.

“Those people taking politics to our schools should stop and face me as the area MP as it is interfering with our academic performance,” Wamboka said.

School heads and boards of management should be left alone to run school affairs without any interference from local politicians, he added.

When he became MP two years ago, he said, the constituency was performing poorly in education but he had worked hard to improve its position in Bungoma County.

“When I took over, Bumula was tailing academically, but now through my efforts it is ranked position three in the county,” said Wamboka (pictured).

He vowed that he would not allow his efforts to improve education standards in the area to be brought down by politicians.

“Face me if you are man enough, but don’t take your petty politics to our learning institutions,” warned Wamboka.

Wamboka attributed the improved performance to the school lunch programme he introduced when he became MP.

He also pledged to introduce a rewards programme for students and teachers.

“I’m going to use all means, including giving out cash awards to the best-performing schools and teachers to ensure that we are the best in terms of academics,” he noted.
