Kasmuel McOure: Raila’s support was built on ideas not division
By Sharon Atieno, July 20, 2026Raila Odinga’s support was built on his political ideals and leadership rather than efforts to pit one community against another, McOure KasMuel has said.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, July 20, 2026, KasMuel said Raila’s supporters backed him because they believed in his vision and ability to champion their interests and those of the broader ODM party.
He said Raila’s political appeal transcended ethnic divisions, despite attempts by his opponents to frame his politics through tribal lines.
“Baba did not earn our loyalty by pitting us against the Agikuyu Nation or any other community. Although his opponents often sought to frame politics through the lens of tribalism, his vision for Kenya always transcended ethnic divisions and every other backward form of politics,” Kasmuel said.
Support will be won through ideas
Kasmuel said Raila’s support base remained largely intact, but warned that political leaders seeking to win over his supporters would need to focus on ideas, credible leadership and development.
He said support could not be secured through fear, resentment or ethnic mobilisation.
“Baba’s support base remains largely intact. It will not be won through fear, resentment, or ethnic mobilisation, but through the strength of ideas, credible leadership, and a genuine commitment to development,” he said.
Ruto could benefit from Raila’s political direction
Kasmuel further said a significant majority of Raila’s supporters could back President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, arguing that this was the political direction Raila had taken before his death.
“All indications suggest that a significant majority of Baba’s supporters are likely to back the Broad Based candidate,President William Ruto, in 2027, because that is the political direction Baba charted before his passing,” he said.
He urged leaders to focus on delivering development, strengthening grassroots networks and empowering communities.
“The task before our leaders is clear: deliver on promises, strengthen our grassroots networks, empower our communities, and continue to demonstrate that this partnership is translating into real change,” Kasmuel said.
He added that the 2027 election would favour leaders who remained focused on service delivery and the aspirations of Kenyans.
“If we remain focused on service delivery and the aspirations of Kenyans, then 2027 is ours for the taking,” he said.
