Karua hails Linda Mwananchi, predicts grand opposition alliance ahead of 2027
By Mustafa Juma, June 15, 2026People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has praised the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement, describing it as a “welcome group” within Kenya’s shifting political landscape and hinting at a possible grand alliance of opposition forces ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a televised interview on the night of Sunday, June 14, 2026, Karua said the movement reflects a growing convergence of political actors who are increasingly aligned in their messaging and goals.
“Linda Mwananchi is a very welcome group, and it is eating from the broad-based,” Karua said.
Opposition moving in the same direction
Karua noted that recent Linda Mwananchi rallies and engagements have shown signs of coordination and shared purpose among various opposition political formations.
“I believe, and you have heard them talking of the united opposition in their rally, that we are marching towards the same direction,” she said.
Her remarks suggest that behind-the-scenes discussions could be shaping a broader political realignment aimed at consolidating opposition strength ahead of the next general election.
Karua further indicated that while opposition unity has not yet been formally structured, efforts are underway that could eventually bring different groups under a single political framework.
“At a proper time there will be a unity of the entire opposition,” she added.
Her comments come at a time when various opposition leaders have been calling for a unified ticket or coalition to mount a stronger challenge in 2027.
The Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been holding rallies across multiple regions, has increasingly positioned itself as part of a broader push for political change and government accountability.

Growing momentum in opposition politics
The opposition space has in recent months seen increased collaboration between leaders from different parties, with joint rallies and coordinated messaging becoming more frequent.
While no formal coalition agreement has been announced, Karua’s remarks add to growing speculation that talks toward a unified opposition front may be advancing.
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has called on Linda Mwananchi movement leaders Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, and Babu Owino to initiate dialogue with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi political rally at Kivulini Grounds in Thika on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Kang’ata said Kenya’s political future required broad-based consultations aimed at improving governance, employment creation, healthcare, and education.
“Sasa nimeambia huyu rafiki yangu Sifuna, wakiwa na Babu Owino na Orengo, watafute Wamunyoro,” Kang’ata said.
