Kang’ata: Raila will kill Kalonzo’s political ambitions if he joins Azimio

By , February 21, 2022

In the past few days, there have been reports that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has begun talks with ODM leader Raila Odinga for a possible union ahead of the August election.

The reports were fueled by claims that the two leaders – Raila and Kalonzo – met at a hotel in Mombasa over the weekend to chat about their political journey.

Following the reports, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has come out to dismiss a possible alliance between Raila and Kalonzo noting that the alliance will not favour Kalonzo.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Kang’ata claimed that if Kalonzo joins Raila’s Azimio la Umoja movement, his political ambitions will be thwarted. He argued that Raila is likely to choose a running-mate from the Mt Kenya region instead of Kalonzo, a move that might kill the Wiper leader’s presidential ambitions.

“Unless something happens, Raila is likely to pick a running mate from Mt Kenya and if that happens, Kalonzo will be displaced in Azimio. This will be an insult to both Kalonzo and his supporters,” Kang’ata said.

With the possibility of Raila likely to pick a deputy from Mt Kenya region, the lawmaker expressed confidence that the former vice president will not join Azimio noting that his stature does not allow him to play the third wheel in a presidential election.

Kang’ata, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, therefore urged the Wiper boss to dump the former Prime Minister and join the Kenya Kwanza Alliance where his former colleagues in OKA – Moses Wetagula (Ford Kenya) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) – are currently in.

The former Senate Majority Chief Whip claimed that if Kalonzo joins Kenya Kwanza, DP Ruto will offer him a better deal than what Raila can offer.

“Kalonzo has no option but to join the hustler nation under a set of circumstances for a better package. Kalonzo is an honourable person, he should shun any approach from Baba (Raila),” he said.
