Kamau Ngotho clinches DCP ticket in Ol Kalou party primaries
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 10, 2026Samuel Kamau Ngotho has won the Ol Kalou Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) party ticket with 12,957 votes.
In an exercise held in the constituency on Saturday, May 9, 2026, which saw a fair turnout and went past midnight, Ngotho, who also doubles as the DCP coordinator in the county, defeated his opponents in a race that attracted nine candidates.
The second runner-up, Paul Waiganjo, came a distant second with 4,978 votes, while Peter Karanja came third with 3,919 votes.

Kamau Ngotho was handed an interim certificate at the constituency party tallying centre by the director of elections in the DCP party. DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala was over the moon while announcing Ngotho as the winner, labelling him the next Ol Kalou MP.
He thanked him for the hard work and contributions he has brought to the Rigathi Gachagua-led party, which has seen him clinch the ticket.
“Kwa niaba ya chama yetu namshukuru kwa kuwa coordinator wa chama chetu, karibu sana mheshimiwa wa Ol Kalou,” Malala announced.
Ngotho, who unsuccessfully vied in 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and lost to David Kiaraho, who was elected on a Jubilee ticket, while chanting anti-incumbency “Wantam” slogans, thanked the party leadership while reminiscing about the journey he has had since the seat was declared vacant.
“I thank God for the victory He has bestowed upon us today. It was not easy. We started this journey after the demise of the sitting MP, David Kiaraho.”
UDA Ol kalou byelection outcome
This came after a successful nomination exercise that began early Saturday morning, an exercise that, according to the Deputy Party Leader, has been admired by everyone, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The turnout dwarfed that of the UDA, where the leading candidate, Samuel Muchina Nyaga, emerged victorious, clinching the ticket for the ruling party.
Muchina, the UDA victor, who is a former personal assistant to the late MP David Kiaraho, secured 3,221 votes.
He narrowly defeated his closest rival, George Wambugu Kanuri (alias Delight), who garnered 3,077 votes.
The total voter turnout was relatively low at around 8,258 votes, despite the constituency having over 72,951 registered voters. George Wambugu has disputed the results, alleging that the outcome was rigged in favour of Samuel Muchina Nyaga.
Should the results be disputed, Kamau Ngotho, who also worked in the office of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, will face off with the UDA opponent in the July 14, 2026 mini-polls.
