Kaluma warns Babu Owino: Don’t fight our friend to please our enemy

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has appealed to his Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino to consider taking lessons on Kenya’s complex political history.

In a statement on his X page on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the MP also urged Babu, a perceived rebel of the ODM party, to retrace his steps to the party that earned him his political journey.

With the leadership vacuum occasioned by Raila Odinga’s death, Kaluma has notably implored Babu to take a step back and reflect on Kenya’s political past, possibly alluding to historical betrayals, alliances, or struggles that have shaped the political landscape.

Return home

“My brother Babu Owino, Baba is dead and is no longer there to protect us from the enemies of our community. Return home. Take time to understand Kenya’s political history.

Kaluma has additionally cautioned Babu against engaging in acts that inadvertently aid his political adversaries.

“Don’t fight our friend to please our enemy,” he added.

His remarks come as the Orange party seems to be at a crossroads following Raila’s exit.

Sifuna’s future in ODM

Owino has been among the members who assumed an adversarial stance against the party in ongoing infighting that predated Raila Odinga’s passing.

Speaking on the infighting in the ODM party, Kileleshwa MCA Robery Alai predicted that the SG Edwin Sifuna’s exit from the party was looming large.

According to Alai, the Nairobi senator, another perceived rebel would not last until November, citing the outspoken senator’s personal and political issues that had put him at odds with the party’s direction after the death of the late Raila Odinga.

“Sifuna won’t stay in ODM beyond November. We wish him well. Anacheza! Sifuna has two problems. In fact, there are three,” Alai wrote.

He went on to accuse Sifuna of stage-managing his recent interviews to avoid hard questions about his loyalty to ODM and his relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.

According to Alai, Sifuna’s constant criticism of President Ruto was misplaced and politically shortsighted.

“He thinks his primary role is overseeing Ruto and talking about him all day. He has never seen anything wrong with the Nairobi County government,” Alai stated.
