Kaluma: Oburu Odinga proving doubters wrong
By Joel Masibo, November 4, 2025Homay Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has claimed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Oburu Odinga, has proven his doubters wrong in his current capacity at ODM.
The ODM’s National Executive Committee handed over the mantle to the Siaya County Senator in October 2025, shortly after the death of the party’s long-serving leader, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

With Oburu’s job being to unite one of the country’s most influential political outfits ahead of the 2027 general election, Kaluma has hinted that Oburu Odinga is equal to the task, amid the rising political temperatures in the country and echoes of division within the ODM party.
Oburu equal to task
”All doubters are surprised by the solidity, experience, and wisdom of Dr Oburu Oginga, the ODM party leader. What we know, you don’t know,” Kaluma took to X on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Kaluma’s sentiments come shortly after Oburu confirmed that ODM will keep working with the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in the broad-based government formation until 2027. Until then, the acting ODM chief said the party will continue strengthening its bargaining power ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in a local TV interview on Sunday night, November 2, 2025, Oburu Odinga said that ODM will keep their house in order and will only accept to work with President William Ruto in 2027 if the party is handed the Deputy President position.
Strengthening ODM
“I would like to say it this way: I want my people of ODM to strengthen the ODM as a party. If we are going to start talking about the position we will occupy there, we will get nothing,” Oburu said.
“Nobody will respect you or negotiate with you if you are a weak party. Our emphasis is on strengthening our party, ODM, so that we can negotiate for the top position in the land.”

At the same time, Oburu Odinga has commended the political outfit’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, for the stellar job the Nairobi City County Senator is doing on behalf of the party, despite a section of the party’s members calling for his ouster.
Oburu Odinga has also defended Sifuna’s latest utterances, hinting at ODM fielding a presidential candidate in the 2027 polls, insisting that it is the same position that the late party leader Raila Odinga took before his demise.
”Whatever Sifuna said is the correct position of the matter; he is not isolated. How can he be isolated when I am telling you that that is the position?” Oburu posed.
