Kaluma cautions Babu Owino against ditching Raila for Gachagua
By Joel Masibo, September 4, 2025Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament George Kaluma has cautioned his Embakasi East counterpart, Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino, against ditching former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to join former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp.
Taking to his X account on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Kaluma added that Babu Owino will be working for his political downfall if he ditches ODM for Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as he eyes the Nairobi County Governor’s seat ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Thursday, September 4, 2025, on Kameme TV, Babu Owino predicted that he risks being denied the ODM ticket in the 2027 Nairobi County gubernatorial race. However, maintained his respect for the ODM chief, Raila Odinga, as he seeks to unseat Johson Sakaja.
“I am sure I will not get the ODM ticket to vie for Nairobi Governor in 2027. Sakaja was endorsed by Raila in Bomas during the AUC prayer meeting,” Owino remarked.

“I am sure that I will never be given an ODM ticket, but I will respect Raila as my political godfather even though all my plans are in God’s hands,” he added.
Following his remarks, Kaluma said if Babu Owino joins Rigathi Gachagua, the opposition will not do him any good.
”Babu, leaving Baba for Gachagua and his hateful group will be your shortest political walk to oblivion. Retrace your steps back to Baba and ODM. [They] will never vote for you to be the Governor of Nairobi, NEVER!” Kaluma said.
