Kalonzo: Police are being turned into tools against the opposition
By Cynthia Lodite, February 24, 2026The Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has accused police officers of being used to silence the opposition leaders.
In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Kalonzo stated that the police officers are now serving as tools of oppression to opposition leaders instead of performing their duty of protecting Kenyans.
“The energy, the conviction, the determination. The people are clear that Kenya must change. They want a country where healthcare works, education works, and security agencies serve citizens instead of protecting political interests,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo, while condemning the oppression, affirmed that the spirit of the people remains unshaken.
“It is unacceptable that the police are being turned into tools against the opposition. Their duty is to protect Kenyans, not silence them. Still, the spirit of the people remains unshaken. The message is growing stronger everywhere,” Kalonzo added.

Kalonzo slams Ruto
His remarks come moments after he accused President William Ruto of using his security officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, to frustrate opposition activities.
Speaking to members of the press on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Kalonzo maintained that despite the frustrations, Kenyans are united in making Ruto’s regime a one-term government.
“Ruto anatumia Waziri wake Murkomen na PS wake wa Usalama Omollo …sasa wanajaribu kila njia kuharibu mikutano ya upinzani,” Kalonzo said.
“The thing we are witnessing with William Ruto’s administration is desperation, so what we are telling him is that the country is galvanised in one agenda: that William Ruto will serve one term,” he added.
Meanwhile, his remarks sparked days after he came out, lashing out at the police officers after tear gas was fired into a crowd he was set to address alongside the United Opposition leaders.
In a statement on his official X account on Monday, February 16, 2026, Kalonzo explained that the incident happened shortly after a meeting with the Kenya Police Service Inspector General.
“Barely moments after leaving the office of the Kenya Police Service Inspector General, where we had gone peacefully, lawfully, and in good faith to demand accountability, we were once again met with teargas and brute force. Our only intention was to walk to Tea Room Nairobi and address Kenyans in a calm, peaceful gathering,” Kalonzo said.
“There was no provocation. There was no violence. There were only citizens and their leaders exercising their constitutional right to assemble and to speak.
