Wiper Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject the Finance Bill 2024 in its entirety.

Speaking in Mathare where he had visited the victims of the recent demolitions on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Kalonzo who was in the company of Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni urged the MPs to vote against it.

MPs will starting voting on the Bill on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Kalonzo on budgeted corruption

According to Kalonzo, corruption has been budgeted for in the Bill, at a total of Ksh1 trillion.

Kalonzo who took to social media after his tour of Mathare expressed the same concerns, stating that amendments on the bill will not hide the budget on corruption.

"Regarding The Finance Bill, 2024, that is a grave betrayal of the Kenyan people – we clearly say that no amount of language and paragraph editing will be able to hide the Sh1 trillion in budgeted corruption. We strongly encourage ALL Members of Parliament to #RejectFinanceBill2024 in its entirety tomorrow, June 20, 2024, as it is unreasonable, unsound, and uncorrectable," Kalonzo stated.

Finance Bill demonstrations

Kalonzo also applauded the young generation that took to the streets of Nairobi on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, and Mombasa on Wednesday, June 19, 2024,to demonstrate against the Bill.

The Azimio-One Kenya co-principal compared the demonstrations to the historical Saba Saba Day.

"We also express our sincere gratitude and admiration for Gen Z for their incredibly effective and nonviolent demonstration against Kenya Kwanza regime’s The Finance Bill, 2024, yesterday in Nairobi and today in Mombasa. We consider this to have been a significant turning point in the history of our nation, comparable to Saba Saba Day," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo went ahead to warn that demonstrations in the country will no longer be about Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, but a movement led by Kenyans for Kenya.

Release of protesters

He also called for the release of all protesters that are still being held at various police stations in the country following their arrest.

"As we had previously warned, Maandamano will no longer be about Azimio La Umoja One Kenya but a movement led by Kenyans for Kenya. The uprising is the beginning of The Kenyan Spring.

"We urge more Gen Zs to join their brothers and sisters in peaceful civic assertiveness and help topple this disastrous regime. We also demand that all protesters who are being held illegally by state security organs be released immediately and unconditionally," Kalonzo stated.
