Kalonzo hints at formalising pact with Gachagua ahead of 2027
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has signalled his exit from the Azimio coalition, as he hinted at agreeing to a deal with the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking in Magarini on Monday, November 24, 2025, Kalonzo said that the time was right to move on to new political alignments after the death of Raila Odinga.
While hinting at his next political move, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed that he is already in the early stages of negotiating a political pact with Democratic Congress Party leader Rigathi Gachagua.
New coalition
“I was with Raila in Azimio. No one knows if the coalition can now. The coalition was to make him the president now that he is sadly no more. We have reached the time to have a new political formation ahead of the 2027 elections. We have to get Ruto out of power.

“We are in a new arrangement with Gachagua with his Skiza Wakenya Party,” he asserted.
Kalonzo said the collaborative pact among the parties allied to the United Opposition was geared towards cementing the newfound unity.
“We have done our research, and as the Wiper, we withdrew our candidate for Kenga to lead in Magarini. In Mbeere, we agreed to have Newton Karish and DCP’s candidate step down and in other regions across the country.
“This is our new formation,” he stated.
His remarks come after he stormed Raila’s political bedrock in Siaya County a week ago with the promise of delivering the late leader’s vision of leading the country to political emancipation.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Ugunja, Siaya County, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Kalonzo described himself as the fitting heir to Raila, pledging to deliver the vision Raila had for the country.
“You people are at the forefront of defending our democracy, na kwa sababu baba amelala. Mimi ndio Baba mdogo. Watoto walikuwa wanalia, Baba, Msilie tena. Nitawashikilia, Ruto hatawaua na Kanaani tunaenda,” he stated.
He urged the region to refuse overtures from people he claimed were masquerading as Raila’s friends but were keen on disrupting the unity of the people from the region.
“Now Baba has slept. I want us to remain united in his honour. Let us not allow people who claim to be his friends to disrupt the unity of the people in Luo Nyanza,” he added.
