Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament (MP) Kabando wa Kabando has hinted at joining former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s party, Democracy for the Citizens (DCP).

Taking to his official X account, on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Kabando disclosed that Gachagua had invited him to join his yet-to-be-unveiled party, adding that they had a candid discussion after extensive consultations with his friends and allies.

He said that the moment the duo assumed office, he remained critical of the Ruto–Rigathi era, noting that after Gachagua was ousted, he subsequently apologised profusely and in a way that felt sincere for his past mistakes.

In addition, Kabando wa Kabando added that he had vowed to work with the former Deputy President, stating that he trusted him fully in their shared pursuit to unite and defeat President William Ruto in the coming elections.

He also pointed out his intention to run for the Nyeri Senate seat in the upcoming election.

@rigathi invited me to join his then yet-to-be-unveiled party, DCP. After intense consultations with my friends & allies, I had a very detailed, candid discussion with RiggyG. Though I desire #Kabando4Senator Nyeri, being in the team defeating crooked Ruto is more crucial & obligatory,” he shared.

“Instant to duo assuming office, I remained critical of the Ruto-Rigathi era. Then DP RiggyG was fraudulently ousted. He apologised profusely, and believably, for his past mistakes. I’ve vowed to work with him. I trust him fully, in pursuit to unite and defeating Ruto’s evil regime.”

The former MP further said that they could not remain stuck in the past and that those who had voted for Ruto or Raila in 2022 had exercised their democratic rights. He acknowledged that mistakes had been made either way and added that what mattered today was correcting those errors and restoring faith in the governance system by installing the right instruments and personnel.

In his view, strengthening institutions, ensuring merit-based appointments, and enhancing transparency and accountability were essential steps toward rebuilding public trust.

“We cannot remain stuck in the past. Those who voted Ruto or Raila exercised their rights in 2022. Mistakes were done, either way. What’s important today is to correct, and restore faith in our governance system by installing the right instrument and personnel to boost,” he said.
