Jubilee urged to give more women direct tickets

The Jubilee Party national women league now wants the party to give direct tickets to popular women aspirants across the country.

League chairperson Fatuma Gedi has asked party leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta, to prevail upon its elections board to give women special consideration instead of subjecting them to grueling nominations.

“We are requesting the President to order that women be given direct tickets in places where they are strong on the ground,” she said, adding that such a move would ensure the number of elected women rises in the August elections.

She spoke at Jumuia Conference and Country Home, Limuru yesterday where she attended a Jubilee Women’s League forum with participants drawn from all the 12 Kiambu constituencies.

The meeting was called to drum up support for the party as well as the Azimio La Umoja flagbearer Raila Odinga.

Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, MPs Rachel Nyamai, Jerusha Momanyi, Sophia Abdi, Sarah Korere, Wanjiku Kibe and Sabina Chege attended the meeting.

Gedi accused a section of Mt Kenya region legislators of being used to insult the President.

“Central regions MPs have become very cheap. They are mercenaries for hire traitors, sellouts and political turncoats who are being paid every week to disrespect and dent the image of our party patron,” she said.

Sabina challenged women aspirants not to be intimated by men and to fearlessly conduct their campaigns.

On the frosty relationship between the President and his deputy, William Ruto, she said that nothing lasts forever.

“It’s not a surprise that UhuRuto broke up. Even marriages break every other day and life continues,” she said.

Nyoro said he will do everything to ensure Jubilee wins a sizeable number of seats in Kiambu in the August elections.
