Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi were among hundreds who attended new Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma’s inauguration on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Speaking during the event, Murungi termed Mutuma as a humble man who means well for the people of Meru County.

“I’ve come here as a loyal citizen of Meru to pledge my loyalty to the new governor of Meru. I’ve come to give my support and congratulations to the new governor of Meru,” Murungi said.

“There are a lot of frustrated hopes and dreams of Meru. We wanted to make Meru great but all that sank. We are now getting saved by a man of God Reverend Mutuma.”

Linturi, who previously served as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, promised support for the new governor even as he replaces disgraced Kawira Mwangaza.

“I promise that we will do anything possible to give you support to push Meru forward,” Linturi said.

Mutuma speaks

Speaking during the function, Mutuma emphasised the need for reconciliation and collective progress, calling on all leaders and residents to move forward together.

“As your Governor I’ll embark on the following issues; Restoring peace, unity and cohesion,” he stated.

“We have a painful past of trials and sacrifice, a burden borne by many of our leaders and the people they lead. A past that we should deliberately and consciously choose to forget, forgive one another, and move forward with a new resolve.”

Mutuma unity is the foundation of progress, urging all factions in Meru to abandon political rivalries and work toward a common goal.

“As your new governor, my first and urgent task is to restore the peace and cohesion that is the bedrock of progress. I’ll reach out to all leaders—elected, nominated, appointed, religious leaders, community elders, and even those in the business sector. Together, we shall forge a united front for the betterment of Meru,” he added.

Mutuma promised a transparent and accountable administration that prioritizes service delivery and public welfare.
