Jalang’o: Sifuna is a letdown to the people of Nairobi
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 7, 2025Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has labelled Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna a disgrace to Nairobi residents over his silence when his constituents are going through difficult times.
Speaking during an interview on the Dialogues with Jagero Podcast aired on Friday, November 7, 2025, Jalang’o faulted the senator, whose primary duty is the oversight of county affairs, for failing to speak out while the county is in a mess.
He stated that while Sifuna has done an excellent job as ODM Secretary General, he has failed the people of Nairobi.
According to Jalang’o, the senator, who is responsible for oversight in Nairobi, has ignored pressing issues such as garbage collection, water shortages, misuse of funds, and poor infrastructure.

“Sifuna has done a perfect job as ODM secretary general but for the people of Nairobi, Sifuna is a letdown. Tell me, Nairobi, Nairobi itself, okay, the first person in the oversight space is the Senate of Nairobi. Everybody knows what is happening in this city.” Jalongo said.
Jalang’o lamented that if Sifuna carried out his oversight role for the county with the same energy he uses as ODM Secretary General, Nairobi would be in a much better state.
He added that Nairobi residents are simple people who only need essential services like clean water, good roads, proper garbage collection, and security.
He questioned when Sifuna last spoke about issues such as the city’s markets, garbage, or the attempted impeachment of the governor, Johnson Sakaja. He accused Sifuna of being very vocal about ODM matters but silent when it comes to issues affecting Nairobi.

Sakaja’s impeachment
Jalang’o further pointed out that the senator has never held public meetings with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to discuss the issues that they wanted addressed, which had made them move an impeachment motion against their county head, despite Sifuna being in charge of oversight.

“The Governor was the other day on the brink of being impeached, impeached, okay? If Sifuna was doing his oversight role of this county just the way he’s doing his work as ODM SG, it would be very far. I wish he was as loud as he is about my Nairobi issues,” Jalongo added.
He went on to take a swipe at Sifuna, predicting his political downfall after meeting President Ruto at State House in 2023. Jalang’o said Sifuna said he would never see the doors of Parliament again and reminded him that it is the people of Lang’ata who will decide his political future, not him.
