Hakuna mtu size yangu: Ruto dismisses opposition as weak, vows early defeat in 2027

By , June 22, 2026

President William Ruto has launched a blistering attack on the United Opposition, dismissing his political rivals as weak and unprepared while vowing to secure an early and decisive victory in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a coffee revival launch event in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County, on Monday, June 22, 2026, the President struck a combative tone, directly challenging opposition leaders and questioning their ability to mount a credible challenge against his administration.

Wale majamaa wengine wanajaribu kunifanyia maneno, mniachie, nitawanyorosha asubuhi na mapema,” Ruto said, drawing cheers from sections of the crowd.

Sharp criticism of opposition messaging

He went on to dismiss the opposition’s capacity to govern, arguing that they lacked clear policy direction and substantive development agendas, apart from the “wantam” and “Ruto must go” chants.

The President singled out what he described as opposition slogans and political rhetoric, accusing his rivals of reducing national discourse to insults rather than policy debates.

Sasa niwaulize nyinyi watu wa Kirinyaga, mkipima hao watu, kuna mtu size yangu kwa hao watu? Mtu ambaye hana maono, hana sera, hana mpango, hana agenda, ati ile kazi kubwa akili yake inafika ni kuniita Kasongo, kusema wantam na kusema must go. Sasa huyo ni mtu atashindana na mimi kweli? Ruto posed.

He mocked their focus on political chants, saying their messaging lacked depth on key sectors of the economy.

Ukimuuliza mambo ya kahawa hajui, mambo ya kilimo hajui, mambo ya barabara hajui, mambo ya affordable housing hajui, mambo ya matibabu hajui,” he said.

Ruto argued that the government was focused on implementing tangible development programmes, urging residents to ignore what he termed as “politics of distraction” and instead support ongoing economic reforms.

Political undertones ahead of 2027

The remarks come amid growing political activity and early positioning ahead of the 2027 General Election, with rival camps seeking to consolidate support bases across the country.

The President’s comments are likely to intensify political temperatures, particularly as opposition leaders continue to criticise key government programmes, including housing, agriculture reforms, and taxation policies.

Ruto maintained that his administration remained focused on delivery and warned against what he described as efforts to derail development through political infighting.

The Kirinyaga event, centred on reviving the coffee sector, was overshadowed by the President’s political remarks, which transformed the economic launch into a charged political platform.

With more than a year to go before formal election campaigns begin, the latest exchange signals an increasingly competitive and heated road to 2027.
