‘They wanted to plant drugs, guns in my son’s compound’ – Uhuru
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused the government of plotting to plant drugs and guns in his son Jomo's home in Karen.
Speaking to news editors on Monday, July 24, 2022, Uhuru revealed that his two sons had a total of six licenced guns, three each. According to the former President, his daughter Ngina does not own a gun.
"I went because of a distress call from my son. I was not drunk, I was extremely hurt. I believe they wanted to plant drugs in my son’s compound. This gun issue is surrounded by lots of propaganda to divert attention from what has been happening in the country," he said.
"My sons own three firearms each. My daughter doesn’t own firearms. All of them are legally acquired. None has been asked to surrender the guns, we are reading that in the media."
On Friday, July 21, 2023, police raided the home of Uhuru's first son Jomo in Karen, to allegedly look for weapons in his home.
Uhuru advises Ruto
The former President has advised President William Ruto against misusing his powers to silence his opponents.
"My advice to President Ruto is that power is fleeting and temporary, do the best for the country. It is your work to run the country not me even if I did not support you. I did my best and handed over power when my term ended," he added.
The President also denied reports that he is funding Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party protests against the government.
"I am puzzled by claims that I am funding Azimio protests, for what benefit?" he posed.
